Bringing an Algae Pool Back to Blue

Killing the algae is the easy half. Getting it out of the water is the work.

In a Buckeye summer, water sitting at ninety degrees will bloom within days of the chlorine running out. People go away for a week, or the pump timer fails, or a service company quietly skips a visit, and the owner comes home to a pool they cannot see the bottom of.

The fix is a process, not a product. We test, remove the debris, shock the water hard, then run filtration continuously and clean the filter repeatedly while brushing the surfaces. Over several days the dead algae comes out and the water clears. Kevin has turned pools around remotely for customers who were out of state and sent them the photos to prove it.

  • Full water testing
  • Debris and leaf removal

  • Filter cleaning cycles
  • Algaecide as needed
  • Return to clear water

How Pools Turn

What Usually Causes a Pool to Go Green

Five causes behind nearly every green pool call we take between May and September.

  1. A Week Away in Summer

Chlorine burns off in days at 110 degrees and nothing is there to replace it.

  2. The Pump Stopped Running

A failed timer or tripped breaker means water sat still without circulating.

  3. Filter Long Past Cleaning

Flow drops so low that the water technically circulates but never clears.

  4. A Monsoon Dump

One storm loads the pool with organics that eat the chlorine overnight.

  5. A Vacant or Rental Home

Nobody has looked at the pool since the last tenant left months ago.

The Turnaround

Our Order of Attack on a Swamp

Four stages over several days — you will see the change from day two.

  1. Test and Net Out

Water tested, then leaves, pods and debris pulled out before anything else.

  2. Shock the Water

A heavy chlorine dose kills the bloom and breaks down what is living in it.

  3. Filter and Brush Daily

Equipment runs around the clock while we brush and clean the filter repeatedly.

  4. Balance and Hand Back

Once it is clear we balance the chemistry and tell you what caused it.

Algae in the Desert

Why Buckeye Pools Bloom So Quickly

Six conditions that make an Arizona green pool a days-long problem rather than a weeks-long one.

Ninety-Degree Water

Warm water grows algae several times faster than a cooler pool would.

A Two-Day Window

Summer chlorine can go from correct to zero between one weekend and the next.

Post-Storm Blooms

Monsoon dust and runoff feed algae with exactly what it needs to take hold.

Landscape Debris

Palm pods and olive drop sink and rot, consuming chlorine from the floor up.

Rental Turnover Gaps

Airbnb pools between guests go unwatched for exactly long enough to turn.

Undersized Run Times

Pumps set for spring hours cannot keep up once the heat really arrives.

Customers Whose Pools We Turned Around

"Was out of town and learned that our pool had turned green. Called MB and spoke to Kevin. Explained our situation and he said he would head over and take a look at the pool condition. He was able to turn the pool around and sent me pictures showing the blue water. Because of his timely response I hired him to do our monthly maintenance on the pool. Kevin and Christian were great to deal with."

Green Pool Answers

What People Ask When the Pool Turns

Most take three to five days from the first visit. A light green pool can turn in about two. If it is dark green with no visible floor, budget closer to a week — the equipment has to physically filter every particle out and that is not something you can rush.
