Cause One: Filtration

This is the most common by a distance, and the easiest to check. If the filter is loaded, water is passing through without being properly cleaned, so fine particles simply stay in suspension. The tell is filter pressure sitting well above where it reads after a clean.

The second filtration cause is run time. A pool that circulates for six hours in a Goodyear summer is not turning its water over enough, and no chemical fixes insufficient circulation.

Cause Two: Chemistry

Low chlorine allows the earliest stage of an algae bloom, which reads as haze long before it reads as green. High pH causes minerals to fall out of solution and cloud the water. Both are quick to test and easy to correct once identified.

Cause Four: A Load It Cannot Catch Up With

After a dust storm, or on a pool that has been left a while, there is simply more fine material in the water than the system can remove quickly. This one resolves itself with time, extended run times and repeated filter cleaning — provided the other three causes are not also in play.
